The College of Natural Sciences was established in 2005 with the purpose of conducting research and providing education in the broad field of advanced sciences, dealing with everything from the origin of the universe to life phenomena.
The driving force for national growth in the 21st century is based on science and technology, and to achieve this, the college aims to train world-class professionals and develop research capabilities.
The College of Natural Science – comprising the Dept. of Mathematics, Dept. of Physics, Dept. of Statistics, Dept. of Environmental Horticulture, Dept. of Life Science, and Dept. of Convergence and Applied Chemistry – offers a diverse curriculum to open the door to creative future science and technology for students.

Educational objectives

The College of Engineering aims to cultivate proficient technical personnel with a sense of responsibility to research new technologies, deepen the acquisition of fundamental theories in engineering, and enhance information education in preparation for the era of advanced science and technology and the information age of the 21st century. The goal is to contribute to the improvement of productivity in industrial fields and the development of future technologies.

Overview

Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics understands that mathematics is an essential discipline for understanding the essence of complex natural phenomena as well as various social phenomena, and its application in processing, analyzing, and planning various types of information is increasingly expanding.
Accordingly, in order to cultivate mathematical thinking skills and facilitate advancement into various professional fields, students study not only fundamental pure mathematics, but also a variety of applied mathematics courses.
After graduation, students go on to pursue graduate studies in fields such as mathematics, math education, economics, management, engineering, and information communication, as well as enter diverse careers in the computer and finance industries, working as programmers, actuaries, and in various other roles.

Department of Statistics

The Department of Statistics researches and teaches statistical methods for collecting and analyzing information generated in various fields such as natural sciences, social sciences, management, economics, and agriculture, in addition to probability and statistical theory. By utilizing statistical packages and analytical techniques, the department aims to enhance students' statistical data analysis skills and decision-making abilities to cultivate professional talent.
After graduation, students go on to enter the financial sector, including banks and insurance companies, as well as statistical offices and general companies, and the demand for statistics professionals continues to grow.

Department of Physics

The Department of Physics was established in 1993 to focus on research in condensed matter experiments and applied physics, as well as theoretical physics, with active research being conducted at the laboratory level in each of these areas. Despite its relatively short history, the department has a significant number of advanced research instruments.
Currently, there are eight outstanding professors on the faculty, and students are actively winning awards across various competitions, such as the Korean Mathematics Society Competition and the Internet Thesis Contest for College Students.

Department of Life Science

The Department of Life Science was established in 1994 with aims for high-level research and education in fields such as biochemistry, molecular biology, genetic engineering, immunology, virology, physiology, neurobiology, proteomics, oncology, and structural biology. To achieve this, the department is actively securing and modernizing various laboratory facilities and equipment.
Currently, there are nine professors teaching various subjects, focusing on three main objectives: cultivating researchers in the field of life sciences; training leaders in the health, medical, pharmaceutical, and administrative sectors; and developing creative talents for the advancement of life science convergence technologies.
The school currently has 170 undergraduate students and 30 master’s students, and has produced a total of 313 graduates over 10 graduating classes.
After graduation, students go on to work in various fields, including graduate school (30%), biology-related fields (30%), government positions (10%), and the private sector (30%).

Department of Environmental Horticulture

The Department of Environmental Horticulture, as the first-ever horticulture department established in Korea in 1950, aims to enhance the quality of human life and improve urban environments by researching and educating on the organic relationships between humans, the environment, and plants.
Major research and education areas include plant molecular cellular engineering, plant atmospheric environmental pollution, environmental biochemistry, soil environment, plant protection science, plant environmental control engineering, genetic breeding, and environmental horticulture.
The department is equipped with various facilities and research equipment, including specialized laboratories for different fields, an air pollution environmental control device (phytotron), a fully controlled plant growth environment greenhouse, a plant factory, a seedling facility, a tissue culture room, and a horticultural design practice room. The department strives to enhance environmental tolerance in plants, improve urban horticultural and green environments, develop year-round pollution-free plant production systems, enhance plant quality and gene development through genetic engineering, restore contaminated soils, prevent and treat plant diseases and pests, conduct research on plant physiological ecology for environmental purification and conservation, and enhance urban aesthetics through indoor horticulture and emotional healing for urban residents through horticultural therapy.s

Department of Convergence and Applied Chemistry

The Department of Convergence and Applied Chemistry was established in 2020 and had a strong start by building a world-class faculty, advanced research infrastructure, and a systematic curriculum.
Chemistry is a fundamental discipline that explores all phenomena related to matter, making it a core subject that is integrated with and applied in various fields.
The most important foundation for successful integration and application is a solid understanding of chemical fundamentals.
The department's goal is to establish a strong foundation in chemical concepts while nurturing creativity that can be applied to advanced disciplines, as well as developing analytical skills that utilize big data.
The department is dedicated to helping graduates grow into mature leaders who will drive future industries such as biotechnology, new materials, energy, pharmaceuticals, and environmental fields.
