International Exchange

International Exchange

One of the key projects that the University of Seoul is focusing on to become an internationally open university for the new millennium is international exchange.

Starting with the University of Akron in the U.S. in 1986, we currently have academic exchange agreements with 65 universities in 22 countries, actively engaging in professor and student exchanges, academic material and information exchanges, staff exchanges, and academic conferences.

In 2001, we signed an academic exchange agreement with the National University of Mongolia, exchanging about 10 students annually, and also signed an academic exchange agreement with Moscow State University in the same year.

In 2004, we actively signed academic and student exchange agreements with prestigious universities in the U.S. and China, and since 2005, we have been working on exchange agreements at the department and faculty level. We will continue to build cooperative relationships with universities in English-speaking countries and European regions in the future. Particularly in September 2006, we initiated a dual-degree program and signed student exchange agreements with San Francisco State University (SFSU) and the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook, contributing to the development of globally competitive talent among University of Seoul students.

In addition, we host international academic conferences such as the Seoul Metropolitan Fora (SMF), Seoul–Shanghai Forum, and East Asian Architectural Union, engaging in in-depth academic exchanges with prestigious universities in Taiwan, Hong Kong, U.S., China, Japan, and other countries across various academic fields.

Exchange students

This program is for exchanging undergraduate or graduate students with foreign universities that have signed academic and student exchange agreements with our university.
The UOS recommends students who meet the qualifications required by the partner university, and the admission decision for the exchange student is made by the partner university.

Exchange students who are admitted to the partner university pay tuition only at our university, and only need to pay expenses for dormitory, seasonal semester fees, and other personal expenses at the partner university. Exchange students can earn credits at the partner university, and after the exchange period ends, they can return to our university and apply to their department for recognition of the credits earned at the foreign university.

Exchange students are selected twice a year, in May and November, in consultation with the partner university, and approximately 30 students from our university are sent abroad each year.

International Summer School

The UOS International Summer School invites students from foreign sister cities and universities with which our university has signed academic exchange agreements, as well as universities with which agreements are planned for the future. During the 4-week summer semester program, the students participate in Korean language education, Korean studies education, cultural heritage tours, Korean cooking and folk game experiences, industry visits, and homestays. The program provides various experiences aimed at increasing understanding and awareness of Korea’s culture and our university, as well as activating international academic and student exchanges between our university and foreign universities.

The International Summer Program has been held annually since its inception in 2000. In the 5th International Summer School event in 2004, 30 university students from 15 universities in 6 countries participated from the U.S., Japan, China, Russia, Mongolia, and Vietnam.

Starting from the 2006 International Summer School, the program was extended to 4 weeks and restructured into a regular course, offering courses in Korean language and Korean studies (politics/economics, society/culture, business, history, etc.), allowing students to earn academic credits.
