The University of Seoul has achieved 9th place in the 2023 JoongAng Ilbo University Rankings

The University of Seoul, led by President Won Yong-geol, has achieved significant progress in the "2023 JoongAng Ilbo University Rankings," rising two steps to rank 9th overall compared to the previous year. This success is attributed to the university's identity as a "Seoul municipal public university," combining advanced science with urban administration and development competitiveness.

JoongAng Ilbo comprehensively evaluates 33 criteria in four categories of educational conditions, faculty research, student education efforts and achievements, and academic reputation. The University of Seoul secured 4th place in the educational conditions and 10th place in the academic reputation.

In the educational conditions category, the university claimed the top position in scholarships per tuition, 3rd place in educational expenses per tuition, and 2nd place in the diversity of international students. In the academic reputation category, it demonstrated a one-step increase from the previous year, establishing itself as a preferred university among corporate human resources managers, high school career guidance counselors, and parents.

Furthermore, theUniversity of Seoul achieved a notable 6th place in the newly established "Excellent Student Education University Evaluation" this year. Specific evaluation indicators, such as 4th place in data acquisition expenses per student, 6th place in retention employment rate, and 4th place in dropout rate, highlighted its excellence in educational conditions and student outcomes.

The ratio of the average scholarship awarded to a student to the average tuition fee is 107.4%, and the education expense reinvestment rate is 567.4%, placing it at the top level among national public universities. This ensures that most students can focus on their studies without financial difficulties under excellent faculty guidance and begin successful social lives after graduation without concerns about student loan repayments.

As a public university, the University of Seoul is dedicated to fulfilling its responsibilities for regional communities and national development. Through specialization as an urban-focused university and the convergence of advanced fields such as artificial intelligence and big data, it annually conducts more than 15 research projects for support of policy and system development in the metropolitan city of Seoul. The research projects "Investigation of policies for revitalizing smart city commercial districts" and "Monitoring systems for the service levels of data-based mobility services for people with disabilities" are based on analyzing and extracting information from Seoul citizens' life data available in the Seoul Open Data Plaza.

In addition, the university actively engages in the "International Development Cooperation Project," discovering and modularizing excellent policies in Seoul to provide consulting services to overseas cities for solving international urban issues.

President Won Yong-geol of the University of Seoul expressed his aspirations, stating, "Building on these achievements, I will actively support the university in solidifying its foundation for future development and taking a leap forward. We aim to become a university that leaps into the world together with Seoul."
