CHOE, JUNG-WOO

Professor

Natural Sciences Building # 8315

+82-2-6490-2673

My research area is structural biology using X-ray crystallography. After studying chemistry in undergraduate school, I joined Dr. Sewon Suh’s group to study crystallography. During the Ph. D. program in Dr. Wim Hol’s lab in University of Washington, Seattle, I worked on the structure-based drug design project targeting the glycolytic enzymes from the parasite, Trypanosoma brucei. In Dr. Ian Wilson’s group as a postdoc, my research interest was proteins involved in the human innate immune system including Toll-like receptors. I determined the crystal structure of TLR3, which recognizes the double-stranded RNA from virus.

Professor Choe’s current research interests include
1. Adaptor proteins involved in the signaling process of Toll-like receptors such as MyD88, TIRAP, TRAM and Trif
2. Innate immune receptors including TLR, RLR and NLR
3. Bacterial proteins involved in diverse metabolic processes
