박동주 교수는 화물교통/교통물류분야의 전문가로 국제학술지인 Journal of Advanced Transportation, International Journal of Urban Sciences, Built Environment Project and Asset Management 등의 편집위원으로 활동하고 있다. 주요 연구분야는 화물교통수요추정, 화물교통체계분석, 녹색물류 등이며 Transportation Research-C, Transportation, Transportmetrica, TRR 등의 SCI급 학술지에 30여편의 논문을 발표하였다.
