Master’s Course Students of Department of Architecture Won Outstanding Paper Award of AIK

Master’s Course students(Yooseob Bang·Chae-yeon Lee·Seokwon Choi) of Department of Architecture, University of Seoul(President Yongkul Won) were awarded as Outstanding Paper Award winners at the Autumn Annual Conference of Architectural Institute of Korea(AIK) held in High1 Grand Hotel located in Jeongseon-gun, Gangwond-do on October 25th ~ 27th.

Chae-yeon Lee submitted and presented the paper 「A study on the remodeling direction of Korean standard-design elementary schools: Focusing on flexible learning spaces for future education」 with her advisor professor Sun-Young Rieh. This study suggested the direction of spatial design by doing case study of Korean standard-design elementary schools that variable elements are introduced and analyzing its limitations, as part of the results of the 2022 Korea Research Foundation's research funding.

Yooseob Bang·Seokwon Choi submitted and presented the paper 「Research on architectural prototyping of seaweed plastic compounds through fused granule manufacturing (FGF)」 to the ‘IT/Convergence’ part with their advisor professor Jungwon Yoon. This study was supported by research fund of 2023 University of Seoul Innovation Support Project, and selected as an Applied Research Team of 「Subject-focused Research Support Project for Social Problem Solving」. It now proceeding the research on ‘Architectural Application of Biodegradable Bioplastic through 3D Printing.’ Especially, seaweed bioplastic used in the study was discovered through the research for the 5th Gwangju Folly, which Hyungmin Pai and Jungwon Yoon, the professors of the Department of Architecture, University of Seoul, are participating.

Meanwhile, the Department of Architecture, University of Seoul, had been awarded the same prize of the same conference in 2021 and 2022. Yooseob Bang, in particular, have won two times of Outstanding Paper Award and Grand Prize of the 3D printing competition before this year’s winning. Also, Jisun Lee, the Master’s course graduate, won the Encouragement Prize on the 19th Excellent Graduation Thesis Exhibition, which was held before the 2023 Spring Academic Conference Outstanding Paper Award on April 26th ~ 28th, 2023 with her paper 「A Study on the characteristics of 5 Street Longitudinal Sections in Seoul - Han River-daero, Samil-daero, Gosanja-ro, Jongno, and Nambu Ring Road」(Advisor Professor: Chung-Kee Lee).
The result were announced at November 3rd, and the certificates would be sent to the winners later.
